Using the government statistics published at http://www.statistics.gov.uk/pdfdir/mda0702.pdf I will now argue that 1 in 3 weddings in the UK is a lesbian couple.

  1. The marriage rate for single men between 20 and 24 was 17 per 1000.

  2. The marriage rate for single women between 20 and 24 was 35 per 1000.

  3. This makes 17 straight marriages per 1000.

  4. This leaves (35 - 17) = 18 women per 1000.

  5. (conclusion) There are (18 / 2) = 9 lesbian weddings per 1000 women between 20 and 24.

For every 17 straight weddings, there are 9 lesbian ones. 9 in (17 + 9) = 26 is approximately 1 in 3.

Naturally, I enjoy this kind of argument.
