I have now landed in Blighty, sans luggage. I called some people to see whether anything is happening in London tonight, but apparently not. I will wait for my luggage instead. Driving on the left is OK, but the two-ton volvo with a long-throw clutch is a bit of a shock after the mini.

I said to Martin that many of the songs at the Dickens fair were things I knew from my upbringing. I got as far as mentioning brasso, and he immediately replied "three ha'pence a tin", although his means of obtaining it differ slightly from mine. I wonder whether these things are still cultural in the US, or whether the singers learned them from books. Either way, a credit to the choices, that we all knew the words to so many of them.
