Consider the descriptive power of colours.

Sue turned bright red.
Sam turned green.
Bob went yellow.
Tracey felt blue.
Jack turned a strange shade of vermilion.
Joe's face darkened.
Judy's face brightened.
Fred turned puce. (Nobody knows what colour that is either, but we all know what it means.)

We all know what they mean, they're all utterly different, but they're all just colours!
