There's a fog in the city, hovering just above the houses. I'm on an elevated train, looking through the narrow slice of clear air between the cloud and the rooftops. The uniform whiteness above makes the world seem unfinished, and disconnected from reality.

The houses in this part of town are very dirty from behind. I'm not sure if they're much better from the front.

We're about to arrive.
